Young researchers from the University of Gdańsk receive the Jan Uphagen Awards

This year’s Jan Uphagen Award of the City of Gdańsk for Young Scientists in both categories was received by researchers from the University of Gdańsk. Natalia Lubińska, was awarded in the category of humanities and social sciences, and Dr Igor Rafał Obuchowski in the category of natural and exact sciences.

Natalia Lubińska’s research area is related to the culture and history of the Far East focusing on images of Chinese culture and society in the minds of Poles over the centuries.

In recent years, Dr Igor Rafał Obuchowski has been primarily involved in basic research on molecular mechanisms that provide the cell with protection against the effects of various environmental factors.

The Jan Uphagen Award (until 2006 it was called “Young Heweliusz”) was presented for the first time in 2004. It is awarded to students and graduates of Gdańsk universities up to 30 years of age for outstanding scientific achievements.
