Algorithm versus osteoporosis

02.02.2018

Scientists from the Silesian Medical University in Katowice and the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice developed the first Polish calculator to assess the risk of fractures caused by osteoporosis.
The idea of the calculator comes from Prof. Wojciech Pluskiewicz from the Medical University in Katowice. He led the team that for 8 years gathered data on health status of nearly a thousand female patients at the age over 55 years. Each examined person provided over 200 information on factors of
clinical risk in osteoporosis treatment.

Basing on the research, EngD  Aleksandra Werner and EngD Małgorzata Bach from the Silesian University of Technology developed the special algorithm that assesses fracture risks. It can be used in everyday medical practice, as well as by women themselves, especially at the age of increasing osteoporosis risks.
