Polish scientists constructing bionanosatellite

18.10.2019

Polish researchers from the Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) are building a bionanosatellite, which will help in the development of new oncological therapies and medicines.

The bionanosatellite will enable to conduct biological and biomedical experiments on microorganisms and cells in low gravity, while the responses of cells in space to administered substances may be several dozen times stronger than on Earth.

The CubeSat bionanosatellite’s size is approximately 10 by 10 by 30 centimeters. It is equipped with small chip laboratories. After 18 months of the scientific phase the project will be sent into space. In the future, the developed technology will be able to be used by other companies or institutions, e.g. pharmacological companies.
