Dr Monika Dymarska from the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław will implement the project “Comparison of a series of flavones, flavanones and their glycosides obtained by biotechnological methods in terms of prebiotic activity and inhibiting the growth of selected pathogenic microorganisms”.

The main goal of the project, financed by a grant from the Miniatura 3 program of the National Science Center, is to assess the impact of flavonoid O-methylglucosides, obtained through biotransformation, on the growth of probiotic and pathogenic microorganisms.

– Thanks to biotransformations, it is possible to obtain efficiently, cheaply and environmentally safely compounds, whose chemical synthesis would be difficult or even impossible. Identifying compounds with strong prebiotic properties may be the first step to research that will lead to the creation of new medicinal preparations based on compounds of natural origin – says Dr Dymarska.
