Scientist from the Gdańsk University of Technology to create new energy storage technologies

11.05.2018

Dr Eng Monika Wilamowska-Zawłocka from the Department of Apparatus and Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Gdańsk University of Technology is developing innovative energy storage technologies. Her project won the competition of the Foundation for Polish Science.

– The two main types of energy storage devices are batteries and supercapacitors. The first work for a long time, but they slowly release energy. The supercapacitors can accept and give away more energy, but for a short time. In my project, I try to combine different types of materials to create a device that could store more energy than a supercapacitor, while maintaining its high power – explains Dr. Eng. Wilamowska-Zawłocka.

The technology of a Gdańsk scientist can be particularly useful in storing energy from renewable sources. Using them often presumes the storage of large amounts of energy in a short time – when the wind is blowing or the sun is shining.
