Stratospheric experiment of scientists from the National Center for Nuclear Research

27.09.2018

The meteorological balloon brought a capsule containing a specially adapted set of two CosmicWatch educational detectors into the Space. The item is prepared by scientists from the National Center for Nuclear Research (NCBJ).

According to Dr. Armand Budzianowski from NCBJ, the aim of the undertaking was to make measurements showing how the intensity of cosmic radiation changes at various altitudes.

The balloon reached the stratosphere at a height of about 32 km. There the pressure difference outside and inside of the balloon caused it to break. From that moment, the capsules with instruments were free to parachute downward to Earth. The sets measured cosmic radiation intensity, which after reading and comparing with balloon flight parameters allow to illustrate how it changes at various altitudes.
