Toruń coin designs winning world awards

Two coins designed by Dr. Sebastian Mikołajczak from the Department of Sculpture of the Fine Arts Department of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń hasve been awarded in international competitions.

A silver coin with the image of Nicolaus Copernicus, which inaugurated the series of the National Bank of Poland, “Great Polish Economists,” won the main prize and the title “Coins of the Year 2018” in the international competition “Coin Constellation – 2018”. The coin depicts the image of Nicolaus Copernicus and a fragment of the original manuscript of the dissertation about the minting of a coin from the collection of the National Museum in Krakow.

Another work of Dr. Mikołajczak – a project of a silver collector’s coin with a denomination of 15 euros, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Jaan Tõnisson” birth, won the competition of the Central Bank of Estonia. The silver coin depicts the image of a statesman, politician and lawyer, two-time president and prime minister of Estonia, Jaan Tõnisson.
