From 29 August to 4 September, the University of Warsaw (UW) hosted the 15th International Nubiology Conference. The event brought together archaeologists, epigraphers, historians and other researchers dealing with issues related to the Nubian lands from antiquity to the present day.

The UW is one of the leading centres in nubiological research. Research is mainly conducted at the Centre for Mediterranean Archaeology, as well as at the Faculty of Archaeology. Archaeological work has been or is being carried out by UW researchers at a number of sites in Sudan, including Faras, Soba, Ghazali and Old Dongola. At the latter site they have been working continuously since 1964.

Around 200 people from all over the world attended this year’s conference. The event was accompanied by two exhibitions: one celebrating the 50th anniversary of the International Nubiological Society and another, an outdoor exhibition – ‘From Faras to Soba. To the rescue of Sudan’s archaeological heritage’.
