The Medical University of Gdansk, as the first center in Poland and one of the few in the world, will gain access to microindentation, an innovative method of bone examination.
Researchers at the Department of Nephrology, Transplantology and Internal Diseases – Dr Magdalena Jankowska and Dr Bogdan Biedunkiewicz – completed a certified training in the application of Osteoprobe Active Life Scientific, USA technology at the European reference center of the University of Barcelona.
Microindentation is currently the only minimally invasive method of assessing bone material strength, possible to be used in humans and giving knowledge about bone quality, not available before. The assessment of the bone strength allows for fracture risk evaluation and has been used so far in scientific research in the endocrinology, rheumatology and oncology.
