Dr Ewelina Król from the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdańsk and the Medical University of Gdańsk and Iwona Pawliczek from the Marine Station of the University of Gdańsk were included in the Gazeta Wyborcza High Heels ranking ’50 bold scientists 2019′.
Dr Ewelina Król has been recognized for working on innovative vaccines, including solutions against Zika viruses and tick-borne encephalitis. Together with a team of scientists, she attempts to create innovative vaccines based on the so-called virus-like particles – empty protein capsules without viral genetic material.
Iwona Pawliczka has been recognized for protecting the Baltic Sea and fighting for the presence of seals and porpoises in the sea. The laureate took over the management of the Maritime Station of the University of Gdańsk in Hel and together with her team she is involved in scientific work on the Baltic species and their protection. This year, the seal reintroduction program has been completed, now researchers want to take up activities for the Baltic porpoises.
