Since March 23, the virology laboratory, which co-creates diagnostic tests from the University of Lodz (UŁ), has performed 1,145 tests for SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19 disease.

The work of the laboratory created at the Medical University of Lodz was possible thanks to the support of a spontaneously formed group of scientists, engineers and enthusiasts, who in one weekend developed and printed in 3D, 70 specialized laboratory stands.

A few days before the start of work, the researchers noticed that without special laboratory stands, the work would last slower. Not having access to such apparatus, they posted an appeal on Facebook. The response was immediate.
Shortly after the weekend we received most of the 3D prints of the missing assortment. On March 27 we received nearly 70 tripod stands significantly facilitating work in the laboratory – says Dr Dominik Strapagiel from the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection of the University of Lodz, head of Biobank UŁ.
