Professor Rafał Weron from the Faculty of Computer Science and Management at the Wrocław University of Technology received the prize of Hugo Steinhaus, awarded annually by the Polish Mathematical Society. The researcher was honored for his lifetime achievements, with particular emphasis on modeling and price forecasting on the wholesale energy market.
According to Rob J. Hyndman, an outstanding specialist in the field of forecasting, reviewing the work of Prof. Weron will be the ABC manual in the literature on electricity price forecasting. It is published in the “International Journal of Forecasting”.
Professor Rafał Weron specializes in risk management, computer simulations, forecasting energy prices on the electricity market and the application of statistics tools to finance and insurance issues. At the Wrocław University of Technology, he manages the Economic Modeling Team at the Department of Operational Research, Finance and Information Technology Applications.
