Biophysicists from the Institute of Physics at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin, in cooperation with scientists from the Institute of Agrophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, have discovered that the effective photosynthesis in plants requires heat. It turns out that photosynthesis in plants is driven not only by light, but also by heat. The results of research by Lublin scientists have just appeared in the renowned Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters.

Understanding the mechanisms responsible for binding energy in the process of photosynthesis in plants is extremely important in the aspect of challenges related to feeding the dynamically growing population of people living on the planet.
These works are carried out in a team led by Prof. Wiesław I. Gruszecki, as part of a research project financed by the National Science Center under the MAESTRO program.
