The department of Materials Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology is working out a protective mask based on the idea of doctors from the Billings Clinic in the United States. Employees are also printing clips to facilitate wearing protective masks.

The Billings mask method is designed to use the material from the surgical mask as a replaceable, reusable filter. Six surgical filters can be made from one surgical mask. It can be disinfected with standard preparations, and the replaceable filter installation mechanism is simple to use. The mask allows breathing only through the filter material, which protects both its user and others.

The material engineering department, has been launched 3D printing of clips facilitating the wearing of protective masks behind the ears, which reduces the discomfort of long use of protective equipment.
