Łukasz Orski, a student of the 3rd grade of the Academic Secondary School of the Wrocław University of Technology, won the gold medal of the International Mathematics Olympiad. This is the most prestigious mathematical competition for secondary school students in the world.
The International Mathematics Olympiad is held in a different country every year, this year’s competition was hosted by Russia. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the finals were held remotely. All over the world, special centers were organized where individual representations gathered. Poles were solving tasks at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.
The Olympics lasted two days, during which the participants had to solve six tasks of increasing difficulty. The Polish national team won six medals – two gold, three silver and one bronze and took sixth place in the general classification of 105 countries. Polish students have not been so high ranked since the 1980s.
