The weekly journal Polityka has awarded Scientific Awards for the twentieth time. Five scientists have received scholarships of 15,000. PLN. This year’s winners were selected from among 15 finalists.
The Scientific Award in the field of humanities was given to Dr Maciej Musiał – professor of the Department of Cultural Philosophy of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań. His scientific interests focus on the issue of changes in intimate relationships, including intimate relationships with sex robots and care robots.
In the field of life sciences, the Scientific Award was granted to Dr Krzysztof Szade, Assistant Professor of the Department of Medical Biotechnology of the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. He deals with the aging of blood stem cells and searches for a marker in human hematopoietic cells that will distinguish between cells at higher risk of turning into cancer cells.
The Scientific Award in the field of exact sciences was granted to Dr Katharina Boguslawski – Professor of the Department of Quantum Mechanics of the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. She deals with the development of new and unique on a globally computational methods of modeling the properties of chemical molecules of large sizes.
The Scientific Award in the field of social sciences was granted to Dr Katarzyna Jaśko, Assistant Professor of the Institute of Psychology of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University. She investigates the motivation of people to engage in legal and illegal political activities.
The Scientific Award in the field of technical sciences was granted to Dr Eng. Jakub Nalepa, Assistant Professor of the Department of Algorithmics and Software of the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science of the Silesian University of Technology. His interests are focused on designing algorithms for medical imaging and Earth observation satellites.
