Polish scientist elected the vice-president of the European Research Council

Prof. Andrzej Jajszczyk, scientist of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow has been elected the Vice-President of the European Research Council (ERC). He will be responsible for ERC activities in the field of physical and engineering sciences.

The ERC is an independent agency of the European Union established in 2007 by the European Commission that finances the highest quality research conducted in the EU. Prestigious ERC grants finance pioneering, ground-breaking research carried out all scientific fields.

The ERC is managed by a Scientific Council of 22 eminent European scientists.

Prof. Andrzej Jajszczyk has been a member of the ERC Scientific Council since 2017. His term as vice-president of the ERC will begin on January 1, 2021. In 2011–2015 he was the director of the National Science Center. In 2013, he became a correspondent member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He is the President of the Krakow Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In 2017, he was elected a member of the prestigious Academia Europaea.
