Shan Ali, a 6th year student of medicine of the English Division of the Medical University of Gdańsk, received the Dr Wacław Mayzl Medical Laurel. The Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences recognized him for a series of 17 publications on neurosurgery.

The award is granted for highly assessed research work prepared before obtaining a graduation diploma. The work must be published in a scientific journal, and its execution cannot be related to the formal requirements of the study.

– I am grateful for this award. I would like to thank Dr Tomasz Szmuda, the Department and Clinic of Neurosurgery, who showed me how to conduct research and publish their results, and how to deal with the associated large number of responsibilities. I was also involved in the activities of the Students’ Scientific Club of Neurology and Neurosurgery, which published over a dozen scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals in one year.
