Poznań scientists to investigate the experiences of siblings of people who were sexually abused in their childhood

10.12.2020

Researchers of the Department of Social and Clinical Sexology of the Faculty of Psychology and Cognitive Science of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań will examine the experiences of siblings of people who were sexually abused in childhood. Research in this group is conducted in Poland for the first time.

The research project concerns the experiences of brothers and sisters of people who were sexually abused in their childhood. The experiences of siblings have so far been the subject of little scientific analysis. The researchers’ goal is to better understand them and to identify thus the support for such people.

Research carried out in Poland is part of an international project, coordinated by Dr Rosaleen McElvaney (School of Nursing and Human Sciences, Dublin City University). It is a very difficult project, but its implementation may contribute to the development of an aid strategy. Poznań sexologists hope that such persons will contact them and participate in the research.
