22.12.2020

According to a study report by sociologists from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków Poles trust the family more than doctors; scientists are the best in the fight against the coronavirus; and conspiracy theories are popular all the time. Their works were financed by the program “Excellence Initiative – Research University”.

Researchers were researching what Poles fear. Most respondents considered the economic crisis to be the greatest threat (68 percent), followed by another infectious disease pandemic (54 percent).

Sociologists were also asking how Poles assess the various entities fighting the pandemic. They mostly  appreciate scientists (61 percent) and the health service (47 percent), the least the government (21 percent) and the Catholic Church (19 percent). As many as 34 percent Poles believe that the coronavirus is not of natural origin, but the effect of bioengineering – it was created in a Chinese laboratory. Almost one in ten believe that the virus is caused by 5G waves.
