2020 year was extremely fruitful in terms of the inventive activity of scientists of the University of Silesia. During this period, a record number of applications for patents were submitted.

In 2020, 58 applications for the protection of various objects of industrial property were filed. Scientists of the university are the authors or co-authors of 55 inventions submitted to the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland and one invention under international patent procedures. Two industrial designs were also submitted under the procedure of the European Union Intellectual Property Office.

The University of Silesia has been granted 41 exclusive rights to various types of industrial property objects. In addition, the university obtained two exclusive rights in the registration of industrial designs in the European Union, one trademark protection right granted by the Patent Office and one European patent, validated in Great Britain, Germany and France.
