Wrocław University of Science and Technology students won the international competition of the Ideasforward portal “24H Architecture Competiton”. The competition task was to prepare a bridge design. The concept had to be unique in terms of architecture, use ecological solutions and refer to the Portuguese tradition.
Students from Wrocław designed a 6.5 km long bridge, suspended at a height of 70 m, with separate zones for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. Part of the project is the ‘life zone’ – a glass sphere in the center of the structure filled with plants classified as endangered species in Portugal. For hikers and cyclists, it would be a place for a short rest, relaxation among greenery and an opportunity to look at the endangered flora.
The authors of the concept of the bridge over the Tagus River are: Mikołaj Kałużny, Maja Klawitter, Kornel Kurtys, Maria Opłatek and Bartłomiej Tuczapski. They had 24 hours to develop the whole design.
