Eight researchers from the Institute of Psychology and the Institute of Applied Psychology of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow co-wrote the article “A multi-country test of brief reappraisal interventions on emotions during the COVID-19 pandemic”, published on August 2 in the international journal “Nature Human Behavior”.
Their article concerns the impact of the reevaluation strategy on coping with negative emotions in the context of a pandemic.
The COVID-19 pandemic and the accompanying circumstances caused an increase in negative emotions among the population globally. To counter these trends, scientists set out to test the use of an emotional regulation strategy called reappraisal.
Research conducted among residents of 87 countries and regions showed that one or two brief interventions using this strategy significantly reduced the level of negative emotions and increased the level of positive emotions compared to the control group. Interventions using reconstrual and repurposing had a similar effect.
The tested solutions are inexpensive and can be used all over the world.
