Scientists led by Dr Ewelina Miśta-Jakubowska from the National Center for Nuclear Research in Otwock visited the National Museum in Kielce. They were interested in the medieval treasure from Czerniejewo – a set of silver ornaments, coins and semi-products.
-We are carrying out two grants on researching specific material from the early Middle Ages, i.e. the times of the formation of the Polish state, 10th – 11th centuries – explains Dr Miśta-Jakubowska. Unfortunately, the historical sources from this period are very scarce. Where history fails, archeology may present material from the excavations. There are many treasures found in the territory of the Polish state from this period. The treasure from Czerniejewo is one of them – said Dr Miśta-Jakubowska.
Scientists want to determine the origins of silver from the studied treasures, as well as technologies and centers where they were produced. The treasure from Czerniejewo is of special value, because its condition is good and its surface has not been damaged by conservation.
