A student of the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin participated in the analog space mission EIRENE. Analog astronauts from Poland, Chile, Cyprus and Mexico participated in the simulation of the mission to the moon at the LunAres base in Piła.
Participants were isolated from the outside world, and could only go out in space suits for a walk inside the hangar that simulates the surface of the Moon or Mars. There, they performed tasks like collecting samples or testing a space rover for transporting materials and penetrating the terrain.
Karina Kijak, as a Medical Officer, carried out a daily health check of the crew. It consisted in controlling the participants’ weight, length and quality of sleep, measuring blood pressure, temperature, pulse oximetry and calculating the amount of water consumed throughout the day. She also conducted physical training for the crew, with the use of individual exercises of individual muscle groups, helping to maintain their well-being.
