Scientists led by Dr Izabela Sabała from the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw, developed an invention called AurezynaPLUS, which is an enzyme combining fragments of two proteins.
This enzymbiotic selectively eliminates staphylococcal bacteria, including drug-resistant staphylococcus aureus, which is classified by the WHO as one of the pathogenic bacteria requiring an urgent development of a new method of therapy. Every third person in the world is a carrier of staphylococcus bacteria, and half of them are resistant strains.
The enzyme developed by Warsaw scientists only eliminates pathogens, without interfering with the natural bacterial flora. It also does not cause the creation of new strains resistant to this substance, so it does not contribute to the aggravation of the epidemic of antibiotic resistance.
