The Jagiellonian University Collegium Medicum in Krakow, the Medical University of Silesia, the Pomeranian Medical University and the University of Rzeszów will jointly implement a project aimed at identifying a group of children with genetically determined morbid obesity. Specialists from Germany will also take part in the project.
The project “The prevalence of monogenic obesity among Polish children and adolescents with morbid obesity – Polish-German clinical and genetic study” is aimed at developing a database of Polish children and adolescents with morbid obesity, their clinical, biochemical and hormonal characterization, as well as genetic tests to assess the prevalence of genetic obesity.
The National Science Center will allocate almost PLN 2 million for its implementation.
According to the University Children’s Hospital in Krakow, in the project, planned for 3 years, researchers want to identify approx. 500 patients aged between one and 18 years.
