Polish company Quantum Optical Technologies, commissioned by the European Space Agency (ESA), is preparing a study on quantum devices for receiving optical signals from space missions.

“Data transmission over space distances is a serious challenge in which quantum technologies can help”, said Prof. Konrad Banaszek from the University of Warsaw, co-founder of Quantum Optical Technologies and director of the Center for Optical Quantum Technologies

The scientist and collaborators commissioned by ESA will investigate a new generation of quantum receivers that use a wide range of quantum operations on the incoming optical signal. The aim of the project is to provide the agency with an answer to the question of whether it is worth designing and building such a receiver to collect signals from space.
