Polish universities have mostly maintained or improved their positions in the Shanghai Ranking 2022, published on 15 August. There are now 11 among the world’s top 1,000 universities, up from 10 a year ago.
According to the Shanghai Ranking 2022 (Academic Ranking of World Universities – ARWU), the best university in the world is Harvard University (USA).
Polish universities ranked as follows: 401-500: Jagiellonian University in Krakow and Warsaw University; 601-700: AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow; 801-900: Gdansk University of Technology, Warsaw University of Life Sciences and Wroclaw Medical University; 901-1000: Warsaw University of Technology, Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Warsaw Medical University and the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun.
The ranking is based on six indicators: the number of graduates and the number of staff who have received the Nobel Prize and the Fields Medal, the number of highly cited researchers (based on the Clarivate database), the number of articles published in Nature and Science, the number of articles indexed in the Science Citation Index – Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index, and the achievements of the universities in relation to the size of the academic staff.
