Researchers from the University of Silesia and the Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin are working on a preparation that could biologically stimulate plant growth and provide them with tools to defend themselves against harmful microorganisms. They will be helped by endophytic bacteria.
The long-term use of pesticides, in order to get rid of fungi or pathogenic bacteria, has a negative impact on the environment and on humans. Therefore, natural, effective ways of protecting crops are being sought. One solution is endophytic bacteria – those that colonise the inner core of the plant.
Scientists saw an opportunity to create a preparation that could biologically stimulate the plant to grow and provide tools for effective defence against harmful microorganisms, for example. Thus, it would be a kind of vaccine that would make plants immune and at the same time would not have negative effects on the environment caused by long-term exposure to pesticides.
