The Rawa River space prototyping project led by the University of Silesia and the Upper Silesian and Zagłębie Metropolis with the support of the City of Katowice and the universities of the Academic Consortium has won the European Commission’s top prize in the MobilityAction competition.
One of the aims of the award-winning project was to seek sustainable urban solutions that will in future contribute to the creation of a Green Learning Zone with more nature and fewer cars. This action is one of the most important tasks that Katowice’s universities have set themselves ahead of 2024, when the capital of the Silesian Voivodeship will be the European City of Science.
“This project is above all a great success in terms of changing the way we think about how we should work on modifying public space. This award is further proof that there is potential in the initiative we have taken to change Rawa”, says the rector of the University of Silesia, Professor Ryszard Koziołek.
