Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) realized a project dedicated to monitoring bee colony losses in Poland ran from 20 March to 21 June 2023.

The project is international in nature, with the aim of collecting data worldwide on bee colony losses and comparing them between countries to understand risk factors at a global level.

Beekeepers from Poland reported 13 626 bee colonies. They also reported how many colonies they lost during the winter of 2022/2023 in each category, i.e.: colony loss due to queen trouble, colony loss due to natural disaster, colony loss due to its death.

Respondents reported a total of 1,127 bee colonies lost. Beekeepers did not report increased colony mortality; overall losses in Poland were 8.3% and the level varied between provinces. The highest overall losses were reported in the following provinces: Zachodniopomorskie (13.2%) and Kujawsko-Pomorskie (12.8%); the lowest: Podkarpackie (4.1%) and Lubuskie (5.3%).
