The Confucius Institute Centre in Kraków, operating as part of the Middle East and Far East Institute of Jagiellonian University, celebrated its 17th birthday and prepared many activities to mark the occasion. On 25 and 26 September, participants in the event could take part in calligraphy workshops, a field game, demonstration Chinese lessons for children and adults, lectures and watch a show of traditional Chinese fashion. 

Guests met the lecturers who run courses at the Confucius Institute in Kraków and learnt a few words and phrases in Chinese. The lecturers were happy to answer all questions related to both learning Chinese and organisational issues.

The event also included a lecture by Dr Magdalena Greli-Chen, ‘The many faces of the mamian skirt’. It was a presentation on one of the flagship styles of the Ming dynasty (the word mamianqun means ‘horse-faced skirt’), which has been experiencing a renaissance in recent years and has attracted the interest of fashion house Dior, for example.
