Jayson Pasaol, a PhD student from the Philippines at the Doctoral School of the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław, has won first place in a competition organised by Magna Charta Observatory, reports the university.

The doctoral student, who in addition to his academic activities actively promotes the role of universities in shaping society, was recognised by Magna Charta Observatory for his essay “Catalysts of Change: Supporting Filipino international students in Poland and the Philippines to shape the future of university engagement’. The award-winning work presents a perspective on how students can influence their universities to serve society more effectively.

The essay is deeply rooted in the principles set out in the 2020 Magna Charta of Universities, which emphasises universities’ duty to humanity and sustainability. It considers the different methods and approaches students use to strengthen their universities and ultimately increase their impact on society.
