The Polish Centre for Olympic Studies and Research has been inaugurated at the University of Warsaw (UW). It is a joint venture between the UW and the Polish Olympic Committee.
The new unit was established mainly to disseminate knowledge about the Olympic movement and sports management in Poland.
“We need high-quality research on Olympism, and the Centre, whose activities we have just inaugurated, will provide a kind of platform for exchanging insights – also on the direction in which academic sport should develop”, said Prof Alojzy Z. Nowak, rector of the UW and president of the Academic Sports Association.
As Dr Grzegorz Botwina, Director of the UW’s Faculty of Management, said at the unit’s inauguration, the Centre’s main task will be to create opportunities for knowledge transfer and cooperation between the sporting and scientific communities. “Among other things, we want to create a Master’s degree programme in sports management, which we will most likely launch in 2025”, he added.
