Researchers from the chemistry department of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan have developed a new, more efficient method for producing silatrans – organic silicon compounds. An article describing the work of the Poznan researchers was published in the prestigious journal ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering.
The publication describes a new, catalytic method for the synthesis of organofunctional silatrans. Given its simplicity and efficiency, as well as its favourable ‘green chemistry’ ratios, it could revolutionise the production of such silicon derivatives on an industrial scale.
The authors of the paper assume that a significant increase in the efficiency of the silatran synthesis process compared to previously known methods, with a simultaneous reduction in manufacturing costs, should clearly translate into an increased interest in such derivatives by other chemical industries, e.g. organosilicon, polymers, tyres.
