The Department of Catholic Theology and the Department of Orthodox Theology have been functioning at the University of Bialystok (UwB) for a quarter of a century. They celebrated their anniversary together on Friday 1 March 2024.
The Department of Catholic Theology and the Department of Orthodox Theology have been operating since 1999. According to the organisers, the joint celebration of the jubilee was intended not only to emphasise the similar role and cooperation of the two departments, but also to expose the multi-confessional and multi-cultural nature of the Podlasie region. The founders and current staff of the departments were thanked and congratulated by UwB rector Prof. Robert Ciborowski.
According to UwB, the jubilee celebrations were accompanied by an international scientific conference entitled “Theological Sciences at the University of Podlasie. “Theological Sciences at the University. Twenty-fifth anniversary of the Chairs of Theology at the University of Białystok’. A lecture on the nature and place of theological sciences in the system of sciences, as well as on their role in societies was delivered by Rev. Prof. Dr Roux René of the Faculty of Theology in Lugano, Switzerland.
