The Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń will be the place of the second debate of the National Congress of Science (NKN) devoted to doctoral schools. Their introduction is one of the most important changes in the new Law on Higher Education and Science.

The level of science practiced in Poland in a few years will be determined by present PhD students. That is why it is so important to create conditions for creative exchange of ideas, to ensure participation in scientific research at the highest level and contact with eminent scholars. The answer to these needs is to create completely new institutions in Poland – doctoral schools.

During the debate on March 20, the representatives of various universities will present their doctoral school projects, exchange experiences and talk about the challenges and opportunities brought by transformations in the approach to doctoral education. The discussion will also concern the organizational structure, joint schools for several universities, education programs, recruitment and evaluation rules.
