On 17 April 2019, just before 23 o’clock in Poland, on the American island of Wallops, NASA launched a Cygnus spacecraft with two Polish satellites: KRAKsat, which was developed by students of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow with the participation of students of the Kraków Jagiellonian University and the first Polish commercial satellite Światowid.
The task of KRAKsat is to check whether the magnetic fluid, or ferrofluid, set in motion affects the position of the satellite in space. The satellite also has a microSD card with photo and graphic works of 1,200 internauts, selected during the competition “I’m flying into space!”.
The Światowid is a communication satellite developed by the SatRevolution company from Wrocław. Its task will be to monitor the Earth’s surface, including water status and air quality.
