The Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) have established a council for the Białowieża Forest. The goal is to protect fauna and flora and reduce the effects of climate change in the forest.
President of the Polish Academy of Sciences Prof. Jerzy Duszyński and Prof. Marek Konarzewski took part in the meeting of the NASB Presidium, where the scientific council was appointed. Their experts will prepare recommendations for the protection of biodiversity in the Białowieża Forest. The decision was announced by NASB chairman Vladimir Gusakow.
– The solutions to the typical problems facing our countries are particularly relevant. First of all, it concerns the preservation of the Bialowieza Forest, the national heritage of Belarus and Poland. Also the climate change will affect the Forest – said Prof. Jerzy Duszyński.
