Piotr Górski, PhD student at the Faculty of Physics at the Warsaw University of Technology (PW) became the world champion in solving chess problems. The competition took place in Vilnius during the Congress of the World Federation of Chess Composition.

The competitions in solving chess problems consist of 6 rounds divided into 2 days. During each round, participants face 3 tasks of the same type. For example, the first 3 rounds include: mats in 2 moves, mats in 3 moves and chess studies (i.e. tasks such as “whites start and win” or “whites start and draw”).

At the World Championships, Piotr Górski scored 70.3 points, fulfilled the grandmaster norm, exceeded the required ranking and thus became the fourth Polish grandmaster in history.
