Scientists from the Faculty of Earth Sciences of the University of Silesia became winners of the “Geology 2019” competition organized by the Ministry of the Environment.

In the achievements category and fundamental discovery, the award for achievements was received by Dr Michał Zatoń from the University of Silesia, and for a fundamental discovery – Dr Mariusz A. Salamon, also from the University of Silesia for the collective work “Documenting the oldest terrestrial plants”.

In the category of popularization of geology and geoenvironment, the Polish Society of Friends of Earth Sciences – the Upper Silesian Branch was awarded for the project entitled “Popularization of geology and geoenvironment by the Museum of the Faculty of Earth Sciences of the University of Silesia”.

“Geology 2019” is a competition aimed at promoting innovative services and solutions, sustainable management of environmental resources, supporting scientific development and popularizing knowledge about geology.
