Scientists from the Faculty of Biology at the University of Białystok (UwB), Prof. Mirosław Ratkiewicz, and Dr Maciej Matosiuk. Research will investigate the genetics of lynxes living in Poland. They will also create a library of lynx genotypes.
As reported by UwB, these activities will be carried out as part of the project “Extension of the range of the lynx population in northern Poland”. An agreement to this effect was signed with the largest university in Podlasie by the West Pomeranian Nature Society. The value of the commissioned work is almost 520,000 PLN.
The international project ‘Expanding the range of the lynx population in northern Poland’ will be implemented between 2023 and 2028 under the European LIFE programme, by 3 countries: Poland, Lithuania and Germany.
In Poland, the project will be implemented by the Western Pomeranian Wildlife Society, in cooperation with the State Forest Holding Spychowo Forest District.
