Academic Team of Poland wins 43 medals at the Universiade in Chengdu

On 8 August, the sports games for students from all over the world came to an end in Chengdu, China. The Academic National Team of Poland won 43 medals and came fifth in the medal classification.

From 28 July to 8 August, Chengdu, the capital of China’s Sichuan Province, hosted sports competitions for students from all over the world. The Academic Team of Poland included 198 athletes who competed in 13 disciplines: badminton, sports gymnastics, judo, basketball, athletics, archery, volleyball, swimming, shooting, fencing, taekwondo, table tennis and rowing.

Polish athletes at the Chengdu Universiade won 43 medals, including 15 gold, 16 silver and 12 bronze. At no previous sporting event have Polish students achieved such success. To date, the Poles won the most (30 medals) in Kazan in the summer of 2013. 

The medal classification was won by the Chinese national team (178 medals) ahead of Japan (93), South Korea (58) and Italy (55). The Academic National Team of Poland came fifth.
