The branch of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan (UAM) will be opened by the Polish Archaeological Institute in Athens. Its task will be to represent Polish scientists who intend to conduct research in Greece.
The Central Archaeological Council of the Ministry of Culture and Sport of the Hellenic Republic officially recognized the existence of the Polish Archaeological Institute in Athens. – Establishment of such an institution is particularly important for Polish archaeologists, because according to Greek law, independent excavations or other field research can be conducted there only by a foreigner whose country opened its own research institute – says its director, Prof. Janusz Czebreszuk from UAM.
The Institute will have its headquarters in the center of Athens. Real estate purchases including a library, administration and guest rooms are in progress. The establishment of the facility would not be possible without the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the Polish Embassy in Athens.
