Due to the resignation of one winner of POLONEZ BIS 1 competition and three winners of POLONEZ BIS 3 competition, the National Centre of Science (NCN) launched the procedure of financing applications from the reserve lists.
Funding was awarded to two additional projects in the humanities, social sciences and arts, and one each in science and technology and life sciences.
Dr Tom Whyman was awarded POLONEZ BIS 1. During his stay at the Jagiellonian University (UJ), he will explore the concept of human ‘natality’ in Hanna Arendt’s philosophy in the context of preventing climate catastrophe and educating future generations to combat climate change.
POLONEZ BIS 3 winners include Dr Cillian Ó Fathaigh, who will explore the role of digital public space in the expression and recognition of injustice during an internship at the Jagiellonian University. Dr Leila Elyasi will work at the Institute of Experimental and Clinical Medicine of the Polish Academy of Sciences on the regenerative potential of stem cells from deciduous teeth in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, and Disha Disha at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences will work on the development of heterostructures from carbon dots obtained from bio-waste and organometallic frameworks to build a platform for printed biosensors.
