On 19 December 2023, as part of the next meeting of the Socio-Technological Laboratory (SoTechLab) operating at the Department of Social and Technological Studies of the Faculty of Humanities of the AGH University of Science and Technology (AGH) in Krakow, a discussion will take place “(Dis)information in times of online manipulation and fake news”.
“Nowadays, with a large part of our lives taking place in the online space, manipulation of information has become a common phenomenon. Fake news, disinformation are increasingly influencing the way we perceive the world, the event organisers emphasise.
Modern technologies allow the spread of information manipulated and falsified to varying degrees, using algorithms and modern ways of presenting content. This raises questions about the responsibility of social media platforms in combating disinformation, but also about freedom of speech and the free flow of information.
During the event, the speakers Grzegorz Ptaszek (Digital Disinformation Lab, Faculty of Humanities, AGH University of Science and Technology), Piotr Siuda (Department of Game Research and Digital Culture, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz) and Ines Okólska (NASK, Ministry of Digitalisation) will discuss the issue.
