Representatives of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, the Hugo Kołłątaj Agricultural University in Kraków and the Sosnowiec Egzotarium have signed letters of intent to take even more care of the endangered European hamster. This is the next step in the efforts of the scientists from the Poznan university to take care of the unique animal.
“With the aim of preserving Poland’s and Europe’s natural resources for future generations, the partners wish to establish cooperation enabling joint action to protect species threatened with extinction, with particular emphasis on protecting the European hamster”, the agreement states.
The European hamster is one of the least recognisable species occurring on Polish territory, although it appeared on this land 50 thousand years ago. It measures around 30 cm in length and weighs up to 1 kg. It is strictly protected throughout Europe”, informs the university.
