The development of new techniques for advanced bioimaging and optical bio-detection is the main objective of the LFTIME4SENS project, which involves scientists from Wrocław University of Science and Technology and China’s Shenzhen University. They have received a grant of more than PLN 1.8 million for their research.
The funding derives from the Sheng competition for Polish-Chinese research projects organised by the National Science Centre in cooperation with the Chinese agency National Natural Science Foundation of China.
The project plans to obtain lanthanide ion-doped nanomaterials on the basis of sodium yttrium fluoride, and to study changes in the luminescence lifetimes of lanthanide ions embedded in the matrix in the presence of water in the immediate environment. In addition, it is planned to coat the resulting nanomaterials with a polymer coating to initially protect their surface from contact with water molecules.
