Researchers from the Faculty of Mechatronics at the Warsaw University of Technology (PW) have developed applications using virtual reality to help rehabilitate people after stroke.
A team from the Faculty of Mechatronics at the Warsaw University of Technology has developed three applications that, using virtual reality (VR), are designed to help with or partially replace traditional rehabilitation.
“The games developed enable the rehabilitation of people after a stroke. Two are intended primarily for patients with unilateral atrophy syndrome and paresis, and the third app is for people with hand paresis”, says Katarzyna Matys-Popielska, M.Sc., the project’s originator.
“Using virtual reality, we have created applications with repetitive exercises, which until now have been provided by physiotherapists. Another advantage is an engaging, interesting exercise environment, which often results in longer rehabilitation times. In addition, sound elements, displayed statistics and animations increase the patient’s level of involvement in the exercises”, emphasises Dr Anna Sibilska-Mroziewicz, project manager.
